Hair Share

I realized the other day that it's been ages since I've shared pictures you guys have sent me.  I apologize for not staying on top of things around here these days.  But I'm struggling to accept the fact that that's how my life seems to be anymore ... I just can't stay on top of everything.  Hopefully you understand!  When you're done checking out all the fabulous hair here - be sure to head over HERE for the latest winner & giveaway for circus tickets!

I thought it appropriate to share these first since everyone is getting back into school & all.  I about fell off my chair when I got these because they are so awesome.  These come from a very devoted mom named Laura.  Last year she did the entire (yes entire) alphabet from A-Z in her little Kindergartner's hair.  During a 3 month "hair experiment" she did a different letter on her dd's cute little head.  She shared the entire post with me on her family blog and I'm going to share some of the fav's she sent to me.  In her post she said that the other kids in her dd's class would ask her when she was going to do a certain letter that their name started with, or that they'd missed a certain letter because they were gone that day and wanted her to recreate it so they could see it again!  So here are a few of the fun ones she sent me:

Hopefully you can see what these are -- but just in case ... A

From A-Z these are awesome!  Thanks so much for sharing Laura!  As Bee gets into pre-school & Kindergarten, I'm totally going to have to keep this in mind!

These next ones are from Laurie.  She's got 3 daughters & had fun entering 2 of them in a local pageant and they both won!  So she was kind enough to share some of her pics with me.
And the best part is they both won Queen!  Way to go girls!

These next ones come from one of my loyal readers Francesca!  She is one busy hair doin' diva!
I love this one - she did it using uneven braids.  What a fun way to switch things up!
These next 2 are ones she got from Girly Do's.  And I must say she did a fabulous job recreating them!

These next ones are from Julie.  She's got a darling little girl & they love Curlformers too!
Aren't her dimples the cutest things ever?  What a cutie!

These two pics come from Amanda & her sweet little girl.  She'd been having a hard time getting her hair to curl & keep it, and she finally got curls to stay for picture day!  So cute.

This next one I just barely got from one of my cute readers Anissa.  If you were around a couple months back when Hairland disappeared offline for freak reasons, I was trying to get a requested hairdo posted - and it was for Anissa.  She had a dance coming up & was kind enough to send me a picture of her and her friends.  She's the one in the black - 2nd from the right.  She had fun doing several of her friends hairdo's as well.  They look beautiful & I'm sure they had a ton of fun too!  THIS was the hairdo I put together for her requested style!

These next fun & crazy do's are what I'd like to call "runners up" in our circus hair giveaways.  The girls loved all of these cute styles too & they are to awesome not to share!  So no, these aren't you typical daily hairdo's - but part of our circus ticket giveaway contest we held last week!  You might could use them for Halloween though or a crazy hair day at school!

These first 2 come from Kelly.  She gave her dd "elephant hair!"  I love it!  So very creative!
I love that "trunk" up in front!
You may recognize this darling little girl from Girly Do's!  Yup, that's right - that's my BFF's little Beans!  I would have never thought to put a balloon in a hairdo!  Awesome Jenn!
These next ones come from Rachel.   They came up with a ring of fire with a lion jumping through it for their circus do.  So cute & creative.
She made a little lion out of felt & added a clippy to the back.  I love it!
There's their lion jumping through the ring of fire!  What a cute idea.  The wreath w/the ribbon in it would work as a darling style - circus or not!

Jamie sent me these of her kids - even though they don't live in the vicinity to be able to make it to the circus!

These next few come from Megan and her darling little daughter.  She makes the sweetest little clown don't you think?!  The poor thing was suffering from allergies though so her eyes were a bit red!  So very cute though!
This one is my favorite with her sporting the cute little clown nose!  What a sweetie!

And in case you didn't make it over to Hairland's Shareland to see our winner -- here she is with her awesome tight rope hair!  Katie B. and her fam are headed to the circus!

And speaking of circus .... our next chance to win circus tickets is up an running.  Head over HERE to see the latest giveaway & the winner of last week's giveaway.

Ok, I think that's all of them.  I'm so sorry it's been a while since I've done one of these.  Thanks to everyone for taking the time to send me pictures & for taking the time to do your dd's hair!  Years from now I'm sure they'll look back on the time you spend with them with fond memories of time well spent!  Have a great day everyone!

Curlformers Q&A

Since there were so many questions about Curlformers after my last post - I figured it best to just do a Q&A post so if others are wondering they can be enlightened too!
First off though -- if you've been debating about buying them I've got good news ....  Thanks to one of my readers, Cassie, for the heads up about the sale going on right now over on Curlformers.com.  They've got all their curlers on sale - the starter packs, as well as the big kits - and they are discounted pretty nicely, especially on the big kits.  This doesn't happen often --if at all - so if you've been holding out (since they are a bit spendy) now would be the time to bite the bullet and get some -- because they are oh, so worth it!

You can only buy these on their website, or at Sally's Beauty Supply (in store or online.)  If you have a Sally's card it saves you like 50 cents/pkg.  If you sign up to get e-mail from them you get discount codes all the time.  Right now I have one for 25% my entire purchase.  I'd share it, but I don't know if it's only valid for me or if it can be used multiple times by others! :-)  Anyone know on that?!

Q:  How long does it take to put them in, and can you put them in yourself?
A:  It takes us me approx. 15. minutes to put them in my girls hair.  But I've used them so many times it's no big deal at this point.  When I first did it I was a lot slower.  I've yet to try them on myself because my hair is so short.  But - I think you probably could do them on the sides of your hair, but unless you're Elasta-woman you'd most likely need help with the back of your head!

Q:  Do they take a long time to put in because on the how-to video it says that you have to have 2 people to put them in.
A:  I guess if you are putting a ton of curlers in, it obviously will take a bit of time.  But it's not like you are wrapping hair around rollers (which takes longer) so I think it's a pretty slick process.  They suggest having 2 people because it helps to have someone feed the curlers onto the "hook" while you are sectioning out the hair for that curler.  I have my girls put the curler on the hook and then hand it to me when I'm ready.  They like that they get to help with the process!  And what kiddo doesn't like to feel helpful & useful?!

Q:   Just curious, how many curlers do you use when you do your girls' hair? And which size do you have?
A:  I only used 16 curlers (2 packages) but I really need to get more.  Especially for Goose because her hair is so thick.  I'm pushing it sometimes to get all her hair into that many curlers.  We own the pink & orange kind - also known as "long & wide".
Q:  Does one big package do a thick head of hair, or will I need an add on pack?A:  If you are buying the styling kits that have like 40 curlers in them, I would think you would be fine.  Obviously the more curlers you have the more amazing curls you'll have. If you're talking about just their "starter kits" that only hold 6-8 - you' definitely need a lot of them!

Q:  My daughter's hair is a few inches past her shoulder and still not very thick. How many curlformers would you recommend and what style?
A:   I think you should be fine to use as many as we do - 16 or 2 packages.

Q:  I have them but when you are putting them in, do you put like gel or mousse on each strand? And do you put them in with wet hair or dry?
A:    You definitely want the hair wet otherwise it kills your dd to try pull the hair through.  Plus it makes a big mess!  I start with fairly wet hair after their bath.  Then I section the hair out into layers.  I start on the bottom and work my way up.  With each layer I put a bit of mousse in.  I just use Tre Semme.  I'm sure if you used gel and the like it'd work just fine too.  The product just helps hold the curl I think.  I've had some people tell me that they just use hairspray on them after they pull the curlers out.  It all depends on how well your hair holds curl.

And just an FYI - they come with 2 different colors because the different colors curl opposite directions.  So I always alternate pink & orange around the head.  This helps the hair not turn into just one big ringlet going the same direction.  They don't curl into each other as much alternating colors of curlers.  It just depends on the look you're going for as well.  They've got some fun suggestions on their site as well.
For any other questions you might have - feel free to head over to their FAQS page HERE.  They've got a great website!  If you have any other questions for me that haven't been answered or you can't find on their site, feel free to ask.  I'll update this if I get more questions!

Also, you should know that since we bought our Curlformers, the girls hair has obviously grown ... a lot.  So I really should be using the extra long ones.  So if I want curls right up to the scalp, I end out with a bunch of hair hanging out the ends.  I end out taking our little curling iron to curl the ends once we've removed the curlers.  Yes, I know this defeats the purpose, but I'm used to it & it's no big deal to me these days!  If I don't want to mess with curling the ends, I just slide the curler down the section of hair a bit further so the ends are inside the curler.  This just starts the curl further down the shaft of hair is all.  Depends on the look you're wanting.

Oh, and don't forget about the circus ticket giveaway. ... it ends tomorrow!  Go HERE to enter.

Curlformers are our Friends!

I know you've heard it before from me, but I'm going to say it again ... We LOVE LOVE LOVE Curlformers!  The girls started school this week - a day apart and so they each requested curls for their first day of school.  Nothing like starting the year out with amazing curly hair, right?!  I love Curlformers because it looks like you spent forever curling your hair, and yet it takes mere minutes to put them in & a night's sleep & voila - amazing curls!

For both of the girls hair we just simply pulled a few strands back & secured it with a few bobby pins to making an X.  Then put a big flower on & we were done.  So simple - yet with the curls- simply beautiful.

Today was Bug's first day of 1st grade & Goose's second day of 3rd grade.  They are so cute together & are total BFF's!
Oh, and I just had to share a few of the recent pics of Bug that we had taken after she turned 6 years old.  The gal was so enthralled with her curls she didn't even take pictures from the front for the first several pictures!  She just wanted pictures of her hair!  So again -- we just LOVE Curlformers!
Just a reminder -- the 2nd round of circus tickets giveaway ends this weekend.  I'm surprised not more of you want to go to the circus! LOL  Maybe everyone is scared of clowns or something! hehe!  Head over HERE to enter.
