Anyway -- it's on sale again on Amazon.com ... for 50% off this time making it $15.12 (Plus, this item ships FREE with Amazon Prime or on $25 or more with Super Saver Shipping.) The price isn't as low as it was before Christmas, but it's better than a poke in the eye, right?! Anyway, if you didn't get it last time, don't wait this time! They are back in stock & have great reviews. If your dd is one that has naughty hair, from the fabulous reviews - this is the tool for you! Go HERE for the latest bargain at Amazon.
Double whammy today .... first - the winner of the Monster Truck Jam has been announced ... so if you entered to win that ... head over HERE to see if you are the lucky ducky!
And our quick & easy hairdo today is indeed a double whammy because I did it on both Goose & Bug for school recently. You'd think that they'd go to school with the same hair almost every day (just because it'd take less thought/effort and time on my part), but that actually isn't the case. But I first did this on Goose and Bug must have really liked it because she wanted it as well. So I hurried and grabbed the camera for a few pics.
It's really a simple thing, but just in case, here are the pics I took:
Part the hair a bit on a an angle - like a real wide V.
Then where the point of the "V" is, part down to the temple and make a twist/rope braid. Twist it all the way to the end of the hair & secure with a little clip or rubber band.
Then part out another section just behind that and make a 2nd rope/twist braid. Twist it clear to the end and also secure it.
Take the remaining hair that is down in back and bring it all smoothed back to the nape of the neck. I brought mine more to the left side of the head & had it be off-center.
Divide that hair in back into 3 sections to prepare to make a regular braid. Grab your 2 twists from up front. Add the 1st twist you made in the very front to the far left section of your braid. Then add the back twist to the middle section of your braid (that you're getting ready to make.)
Strike a really weird hand position like this and you're set! LOL
You've just got to add the twists into your braid so they smoothly lay on the hair & are incorporated into the braid nicely.
Braid down as far as you like & secure the braid with a rubber band. I'd had the twists held with little clips, so as I braided down & got to the end of the twists, I just pulled the claw clips out.
If you've laid the twists right, they should fall into the braid like this:
Kinda looked cool I think!
I can't remember if we told you, or have had pictures on here or not, but Goose (obviously) got glasses recently! We knew she was smart before, but now she just looks like an extra smarty pants too!
And like I said, I did this one on Goose & Bug the same morning, and so I hurried and took a few pictures as we were running out the door. Oh, and btw - I don't recommend hair tutorials on school mornings when it's snowed outside & you were unaware! :-)
First up -- if you were down at the Energy Solutions Arena bright & early Monday morning, I held a drawing for VIP passes to Disney on Ice at my booth (this is not the current giveaway #1 I have going on). If you entered that drawing - click HEREto see if you are the winner.
Secondly, for those locals that tuned in at the times I told you and missed seeing me, I apologize. Things did NOT go as they were supposed to, and in fact one of the channels actually left before all of the mommy blogger segments (sniff sniff!) and so I didn't get to do my first segment. Then the 2nd one was actually on earlier than it was supposed to be, so my husband didn't even get to see it since he was getting Bug ready for school. Thank goodness for my friends with TiVo (yes, I live in the dark ages!) Anyway, it appears the only link I have is for one of the little things we did at the very end of the newscast where we raced some of the local policeman wrapping up some of the food donated. I'm trying to find out if there is any way I can actually get the silly segment of me with Big Budah so if I do, I'll be sure to post it. I took Goose down with me and we had to be downtown at 5:30 a.m. to set up. It made for a VERY early morning! Anyway, for my clip with Big Budah, -- He's a funny guy & so I knew I wouldn't necessarily be doing any hair on Goose for my time with him. Thanks to my good friend Mel, she loaned me a long black wig & I sewed him a Big Budah baby headband and we'd made a bunch of flower clips to hand out and so we had some fun with that when chatting with him. Even though I only have the 1 video clip, I did take some pictures of some of the happenings while we were down there. (See if you can figure out which one I am in the clip -- hint, I've got Goose with me!) And the headband Budah is wearing --- he had me add a bunch of the clips we'd made to add to his "flower power!" It was pretty funny!
We had just a few days to get ready for this whole even & put stuff together for our booth and so Goose was a dear & helped me put together a bunch of flower clips to hand out. My husband "decided" to get the stomach flu and so I was more than a little stressed trying to pull everything together by myself. But thanks to good friends, great connections and wonderful family I was able to pull it all off!
Here's some of our clips we were going to be handing out. And thanks to my BFF Jenn for donating some of her darling clips that she makes. (They are the ones on the bottom.)
I had to have a sign for my booth & so I had one of those "science project" type display foam board things that the sides folded in. It was huge, but looked great.
Down at the actual event, freezing our buns off a bit & Goose being a good sport!
Me, Goose, a few of the other mom bloggers, and of course, Big Budah. He's normally pretty bald, or has a bit of stubble on his head. Thanks to me he had on a big long black wig and a darling stretchy headband & flower.
My flash went off for this one but Goose & Big Budah posing together! He is hilarious.
Goose got in on some of the fun "chicken dance" with some of the other kids down there.
Getting all geared up for the wrapping contest (that is in the video)...
And I must say I was pretty dang fast with my letter opener instead of using scissors to cut! :-) The police officers totally cheated! One of them came through (and you can see it at the end of the video) and pulled open some of our wrapped packages! Big Budah knows his stuff though & didn't side with the news anchor! We totally won!! We had to use stickers for our tape so Goose helped me with that as I pulled the paper around the food! She's such a good helper! :-)
Anyway, it was quite the experience. We had so much fun. Thanks to those of you that came down & said hi (you know who you are- wink wink!)
Here is our full segment on TV - sorry it's not the best video but it sure was fun!
For those not interested in the Monster Truck Jam tickets (or if you are & forgot to enter as many times as you can - click HERE)... piggy backing right along with it I now have Disney on Ice tickets. And today as this is posting I am down having my "TV debut" so wish me luck! To find out how to win the 1st set of Disney tickets -- head over HERE! I hope to be able to get clips from the local channel's websites to share, so my fingers are crossed. If you are local, I'll be on Ch. 4 at around 6:45 a.m. and Ch. 13 around 8 a.m. I'll be involved in other stuff throughout the morning so I may show up on other snip-its throughout the broadcast, but my actual "little segments" are slotted for those times! I'm so excited! Have a great day everyone!
Almost 2 years ago I'd done this fun style on Bug that I called a "Fake Fishbone" (click the pic to go to the tutorial):
I'd almost forgotten about it until recently. There are so many styles in my archives that I sometimes forget what is in there! Funny enough, my BFF Jenn over @ Girly Do's and I got talking and she's got a fun similar style using this same idea that she did on Beans forever ago too (go HERE to see it -- Beans looks so darling - she's sooo little!)
Anyway, using this same technique I did this cute one on Bee recently.
Part the hair from ear to ear over the crown of the head. Then make part it in the middle or off center, as I did. Make a small little pony & do a pull through. You can watch my video HERE on how to do those if you aren't sure.
Then add a rubber band a few inches below your first pull through.
Divide that little section of hair in two - making a hole.
Then tuck the rest of the pony tail through the top of it and pull it through.
Once it's all pulled through it should look something like this:
Repeat 2 more times, so you have 3 of these fake fishbone braid sections.
Repeat on the other side of the head.
Then part the hair diagonally at the angle your fake fishbones fall if you pull them a bit out from the the head. You don't want to pull them straight back around into the middle of the back of the head. You want it a bit lower, so the part is a bit of a different angle.
Part both sides of the hair at that angle and pull the fake fishbones backwards and combine all that hair and the 2 "fake fishbone" sections into a rubber band.
After I pulled it back into the ponytail, I added some curl to all the hair hanging down, and then added a flower & we were done. Pretty quick & easy.
** If you were doing this on an older girl, you could totally tease the hair on the crown a bit to give it some volume or if you have a Bumpit you might stick one under the hair. I just didn't think she needed the "poof" there in back!
From the top:
And from each side:
I really liked this one and it was quick & easy, without taking forever like a real fishbone braid does.
Don't forget about the Monster Jam Tickets we're giving away ... head over HERE to enter. And if you didn't hear about my latest news, scroll down to yesterday's post! :-)
I had planned on posting a hairdo for you today, but I got some exciting news yesterday and then I had some other news to share, so I'm afraid the do will have to wait until tomorrow. I've got to say that with all the drama & pain issues that I'm having in my life, the good news that I had come yesterday was really what I needed to brighten things up for me. Guess what? I'm going to be on TV!! Can I get a big WOOT WOOT?! And can I just say I'm sort of freaking out?! If any of you read THIS post over on our giveaway blog ... it has to do with that. As part of this whole Mommy Blogger stuff I'm involved with I'm going to be hanging out with several other mom's that blog down at the local food bank Monday morning between 6-9 a.m. & a couple local TV stations (Ch. 4 & Ch 13) are going to be down there helping with the food collection. I'll be having a little segment on both channels as well as getting to participate in fun giveaways (read more HERE for info on that) and some fun contests with the mom bloggers & some of the local policemen. I'm sooo stoked!
As part of the contests we are going to have timed contests to wrap some of the food collected and we have to wrap it creatively. Any "hair related" ideas of how I can wrap the food that you might have to share would be greatly appreciated!

I hope you'll do me the honor and "Like" me on Facebook and stay in touch a bit more over there if you are a "Facebooker" -- so just click on my cute little badge below & it'll take you to my new page!
Thanks for hanging in there with me while I run around like a chicken with my head cut off for the next few days!
I'm so excited to share our latest giveaway. If you, the man, or little boys in your life love Monster Trucks & are interested in trying to win tickets -- head over to our giveaway blog - Hairland's Shareland over HERE to find out more. The men in your life are gunna LOVE this!!
Yesterday as I was checking out some of my favorite blogs that had updated, I found that Sisters Stuff had posted this darling tutorial on how to make these fun fluffy clips. We've got a few different clips with some of the feather boa stuff on them, but being the space case that I am, it never entered my mind to make some of my own. So if you're interested in how to make these sweet little things -- head over HERE for their "Puff Ball Clip Tutorial".
I was going to run out & buy some of the feather strip/boa stuff that they use for the clip and then I realized that the girls have some of this stuff in their dress up box that has fallen off some of their dress up clothes! I might just turn it into a clip instead of reattaching it to their dress up clothes! (Sshhh - don't tell them though!)
Also - just a quick note on these fun & fuzzy clips -- be sure you are ALL done with your dd's hair - meaning using water or hairspray before you put the clip in. I would assume most people don't use hair spray when they have a bow or flower in - but in the off chance you do -- for obvious reasons it will totally ruin the clip if you get hairspray on these! Just a heads up there!
And I also wanted to mention for all my Utah readers, there are some more fun upcoming events for which I'll be giving away tickets. For a hint & also for some info on how you can score free ones - head over to our giveaway blog - Hairland's Shareland over HERE.
One of Goose's very good friends just got baptized on New Year's Day & she and her mom, one of my real good friends, (one that I've known clear back from my high school days and she is still my friend despite the awful hair I had back then!) asked me to do her hair for her baptism pictures, as well as for the day of her baptism.
They are Curlformer lovers like we are and she wanted to sport THIS hairdo that I'd done for Goose back at the beginning of the year. Miss H. has shorter hair than Goose does and so I was a bit worried that it might not work as well, but I actually thought it turned out even better. I especially loved the curls a lot more because they weren't weighed down by the length. I did a few of the twists a bit different to hide the headband just because her hair is a bit finer than Goose's but it turned out beautiful I think.
You may wonder why I'm reposting a hairdo I've already done - but so many times I have people tell me certain styles won't work on their dd because their dd's hair isn't the same length or same texture as my dd's that a style can't be done. Despite Miss. H having shoulder length hair and finer hair this style worked wonderfully. In fact, using Curlformers was a perfect way to make her hair look fuller and thicker. You never know until you try! Obviously there are some styles that you must have a certain type of hair for, but often times with a few alterations or by thinking outside of the box just a little you can pretty much the same results as you see in my tutorials!
She borrowed our beautiful headband we got from All Things Ribbon - it also went fabulous with her beautiful white dress. She looked simply amazing - like a true angel!
And if you've been around BIH since day one - you may recognize her little face from this way old post ... it's amazing how fast they grow up!
She's not such a little girl anymore! She looked so beautiful all dressed in white & I loved how her dark hair stood out so much against the dress & how stark the white headband was in her hair. This has got to be one of my favorite hairdo's I've done in a long time! Thanks Miss H. for letting me be part of your special day!
I hope everyone had a fabulous New Year's and is settling back into the "norm" with kids back in school, and all that jazz. Hopefully you survived the holidays & can adjust back into the normal daily groove of things again! I don't know that I'm ready for these early mornings again though!
As I've done a bunch of blog hopping over the past week I've seen on other blogs where people have posted their favorite posts from 2010 or "reminiscent" posts looking back on their blog over the past year. I thought it was such a fun idea, I hope you don't mind if I do the same. I think it's especially fun doing that here because it's fun to see the changes in the girls as well as in their hair!
Thank you all for a fabulous year - for all your comments & support and encouragement along the way. And thanks for hanging in there as things have slowed down around here a bit due to my headaches. I'm not out of the woods yet - but I'm hoping I see a light at the end of the tunnel with all that - so again, I appreciate your patience!
Anyway, I hope you'll take a look around at my quick flashback of 2010 & have fun reminiscing with me! Just click on the picture & it'll take you "back in time!"
Thanks to DSO (Digital Scrapbook Obsession) for the great stuff for my new blog look. Also, to Digifree.blogspot.com for all their great links to fun free scrapbooking stuff!
