Secret

Secret Secret ... I've got a Secret!!
Anyone else feel like bursting into song with me now?! :-)
I've been keeping it for a while now!  Not because I wanted to - but because I've had some things in my personal life that have just hindered time at the computer.  You are aware of my migraines, and those continue to be a factor, but I've had some other things in my life that I've chosen not to share, that have just sort of made things a bit more complicated over this past month or two, so I haven't gotten around to telling our little secret! Those of you that know us personally are aware - but those of you that don't know us are now getting a sneak peek!  Stay tuned! :-)  Have a great weekend!

Our Try at Tween Braids

If you remember, back at the beginning of December, my sister-in-law shared a fabulous style with us that I dubbed "Tween Braids."  If you missed it - go HERE for the tutorial on it.  So yes, I know Bee isn't a tween, and I've actually done this do on the other girls, but always forgotten to take pictures - but I loved this one especially on Bee when I did it just half way down and joined them in back.  It just looked so sweet on her!  So of course, I had to share!
We got her all "guzzied" up for her pre-school Christmas program and she looked so cute!  We only parted out 3 sections to braid (see the tutorial linked above) and then braided down to the ends of the hair & joined them in the back with a rubber band.

Instead of just leaving it straight in back I used my small curling iron & curled small random pieces and then sprayed them with hair spray so they'd stay individually curled & not end out being one big ringlet in back.  The rest of the hair that hung down, I gently curled under with my flat iron.  Added a cute bow & we were ready to hear her sing her little heart out!
Here's a view of our crazy parts.
And our happy little Bee ready to go sing for her Christmas program!  Needless to say, her hair was a hit!
And if you entered to win the 3rd set of Disney on Ice tickets, I've announced the winner so head over HERE to see if it was you!

Cornrows into a Half Pony

Just a quick post to show you what I did on Goose's hair the other day for school.  Lately I've been loving little cornrows up front in the girls hair, but since Goose has so much hair and on most school mornings I don't have time to do them clear across the crown of her head - I opted to do this instead.  I've done cornrows in THIS ancient post, and for a video on how I insert the bobby pin (aiming it towards myself and then shoving it away from myself as I push it down the shaft of the cornrow) watch the 2nd video HERE.  It's not the greatest video, but hopefully you get the idea.  One of these days I'll redo it!

Anyway, parted her hair on a bit of an angle for the first twisted cornrow, and then continued parting at the same angle.
Once I had the cornrows secured I simply parted the hair from ear to ear making a half pony.  Use care when doing this as to not pull the corn rows out.  If your bobby pins aren't in there well, you risk disturbing the cornrows.  Since the cornrows were off to the left side of her head a bit, I set the half pony off to the left as well - ever so slightly.
We topped it off with a beautiful flower from Flowerz in Her Hair, curled the ends of her hair ever so slightly with the flat iron & we were good to go.
She decided to wear her black glasses for a change & I liked the stark contrast  instead of her pink ones she usually wears!  And despite the windy day we had when she wore this, this 'do held up fabulously!  If you can master these little cornrow twists, this is really a good quick & easy do for any school morning.  You really only need a few up front & can do just about anything else with the rest of the hair to add variety to your style.  ** If you are growing your bangs out or they are just bugging you one day, throw a few of these in & you're in business! **
And don't forget ... if you want to enter for Disney on Ice tickets, the 3rd giveaway is currently going on.  Head over HERE to enter.

Princess Days at Paul Mitchell

If you are wanting to enter for Disney on Ice tickets -- the 3rd giveaway is now up and running over HERE.

Since we are all about hair here, I thought this was only appropriate to post!  Although this particular info happens to be for people in Utah, as I searched around online, if you have a Paul Mitchell school in your area, chances are they are doing this at your school too.  Prices varied from state to state as well. Sounds like a lot of fun & helps a good cause too!

I found a few schools that had already had them this month, like in Alabama & Idaho last week, there is one I found in Overland Park, KS that is coming up- HERE.

Anyway, if this is something that interests you, see if you've got a school in your area & give them a call.  I'd be willing to bet it's a school wide thing!  What a fun little GNO with your dd!

Got Bangs?

Real quick - for those of you wanting to enter the 2nd Disney on Ice ticket giveaway, it is up and running, so head over HERE to enter that.

The rest of you are probably thinking that I cut bangs into one or more of the girls' hair, right?  Wrong!  This post actually has to do with ME!  Yes, me.  How selfish huh?!  Hope you don't mind!  If you do, sorry, you'll have to come back later when I post something with the girls in it! LOL

I've had an a-line for what seems like forever, and so over the past several months I've been letting the back (which is rather stacked) -gradually grow down in back and so it is not as a-line-ish as it used to be.  I'm not sure where I'm wanting to take things.  But I've just been wanting a bit of a change.  And well ..... obviously with short hair there really isn't a heck of a lot you can do with it.  Or so I thought....

Years ago I didn't really have bangs I just sort of tucked things behind my ears and then back around the time I had Bee my stylist convinced me to cut bangs and I was scared to death. I have a cowlick & bangs don't really work with one of those.  But I have since learned that PRODUCT is the key!

Queue the music ....
I've said before I'm not one to spend bookoo bucks on hair product but I've found this stuff works wonders at piecing my hair and bangs to where I want it to go.  I get this at Sally's (where else?!) and you can get it online too.  It's actually listed under GVP stuff for short.  They've got a whole line of these kind of things, and while I'm not saying they trump Paul Mitchell (that would probably be blaspheme wouldn't it?!) but they work fabulous for me and a tube lasts forever and costs about $5.50 with my Sally's card.

It seems these days tons of people have bangs - blunt bangs, fringe, bangs down into their eyelashes, angled bangs, it doesn't matter what shape or form - they are everywhere -- especially in older girls & ladies hair.  I'd share pictures with you of celebrities but personally, I hate comparing myself to them so this is about just us - wonderful gals!  You can google celebrities & bangs if you want & find plenty of pix if you like!

You're probably wondering if I have bangs what's the point of all this jabber?  The gal that cuts my hair, cut my bangs just a bit different recently (not so angled I guess - probably just noticeable to me!) and so even though I could basically get them to do what I wanted with my wax stuff, I was in a mood to try something a little different one day.

Usually this is an average hair day for me ....  Nothing out of the ordinary or over the top.  It works for me and with the time I have to get ready I like it.  (Sorry for the cheesy pix of me!)
And well, with my recent bang cut, I messed around with them a bit and was actually to get "full bangs" that actually lay flat a bit better than expected and don't "boing" like I'd figured they would.... all with a bit of help from my flat iron & my above mentioned product (and of course I use a bit of heat protector goo on my hair too!)
And of course you can always do the "bump" up front with your bangs or do the easy 2 strand twist that I posted YouTube HERE and you get a look similar to the lovely "freeze frame" pic I took from my video below!

My point is .... despite having short hair -- you CAN mix things up a bit even if it is just with your bangs.  I've got to admit I feel a bit "naked" when my forehead is showing and I have them all the way off my head twisted back, but it does mix things up a bit and people always compliment me on how it looks.  Of course you can always add an accessory too!

So I dare you to try something this week if you have bangs.  Pull them back -- put them down.  Part them differently.  Doesn't matter -- just try a different look.  Don't be afraid to try something different!!  Remember, with a bit of help with the right hair product anything is possible!  If I can do it (and really, I am not too talented when it comes to my own hair, that's why I keep it short) YOU can do it too!!  Let me know how it goes.

So do you have bangs?  When was the last time you changed it up?!

Headband Organizer & Another Winner

If you entered to win the 1st round of Disney on Ice tickets -- I've announced the winner.  So head over HERE to find out if you're the lucky duck!

So... The other day I stumbled upon a brilliant tutorial, that I had to share.  I've been accumulating headbands over the last several years, and since they are great for every age - especially the girls as they get older, I've found I've gotten a few more lately.  I've really had no where to put them and so they just are laid here and there.  Well, by accident I found Sunny Tuesday's Headband Organizer idea.  I'm not very capable when it comes to sewing or huge crafty things -- but this is something I can totally do.  And you can too!  So I had to pass it on & share it.  It can be used to hold bows too.  So head over to her darling site & check it out.  And have a look around too.  She's pregnant & having a baby girl & I about melted when I saw what she she'd done to her cute little ultra sound picture!
Anyway, thanks Sunny Tuesday for letting me share your fabulous idea with my readers!

And just a little heads up, I'll be out of commission for a few days, possibly longer, as there is quite a lot going on here at my house so bare with me if things are quiet again for a bit.  Things in my life are a bit "in-limbo-ish" right now so I have no idea what life holds over the next little while.  Thanks for your patience & understanding!
