Rubber Band Wraps & Flipped Braids

It's been a while since I've done anything using this fun technique we call "rubber band wraps" and I had a fun new set of Gimme Clips that I wanted to put to use so I needed a style with two of "something" to be able to use both of the cute clips.  So here's what we did.

Make a straight part up front - slightly off center-
Once you reach the back of the head, turn it into a zig-zag part (if you like) so you have sectioned the hair off like you're going to make 2 ponytails.
Back up front on top of the head, starting on the right side of the head part off a small section of hair on the right side of your straight part.  Doesn't matter what shape - I made mine rectangular.
Grab your colored rubber bands and start wrapping.  If you aren't familiar with how this is done, you can watch our rubber band wrap video HERE.
Continue on down the hair until you are pretty close to the end.
Take the rest of the hair that is parted out on the right side and prepare it to start a basic 3 strand braid behind the ear.
Add the rubber band wrapped hair into the middle section of your braid and start to braid so it is included in the braid.

Braid all the way down and tie the end off with a rubber band.  You could stop here if you like.
We flipped the braid up (secured it with a rubber band close to the head) & curled the end under a little.  Repeat to the left side of the head and you are done.
Remember the cute little clip I mentioned?  Well, this is the one.  Isn't it just the sweetest thing ever?  You can get these cuties where ever Gimme Clips are sold.
We added one to each flipped up braid & we were set.

Add your hand on your hip and a teddy bear under the other arm & you are good to go!

Gimme Clips Beanie & Headband Giveaway

If you follow us over on our Facebook page, you know that I recently smashed my finger in my car door.  Long story short, it is quite awkward to type, and it is quite a chore to do hair right now (especially my own! LOL)  I have many tutorials waiting to be posted, but typing that much just isn't in the cards right now.

I'd wanted to get this posted the other day, but due to the pain I haven't been able to get to it until now!  Anyway, I've got a fun giveaway going on over on our giveaway blog ... here's a hint ....
So head over HERE now & enter to win these darling things from Gimme Clips!

Double Braided Headband - Any Age

After I did the braided headband that I posted the other day, I kept wanting to try it with 2 braids instead of just the one.  Since Bee was the only girl home at the time, she was the "lucky" recipient of this version of the style.  I loved it just as much, if not more than the style sporting the 1 braid.

I did it the exact same way as I did in the post for a Braided Headband for Any Age but did a braid on both the left and right sides.  You'll have to refer back to that post for the step-by-step pictures.  Bee's hair gets rather thin at the end of her braids and her hair barely reached over to where I needed it.  So it's a good thing I do the twists with the front "bang" area to cover it all up!  You'd never know there were bobby pins holding things down and rubber bands hiding in there.
And of course to "pretty" things up, I curled it a bit with our flat iron, and added a fun spring flower from Gimme Clips.  It's got a bit of bling in the middle and I'm half way tempted to pull out my i-rock tool from the Gimme Glam kit and add a bit more!

This is how I'd arranged the braids when I'd first done her hair:
But later as the day wore on, I guess they loosened up a tad and so they separated from each other.  I pulled her aside for a few more quick pictures because I actually really liked them further apart too.
What do you think?  Do you prefer the braids closer together or further apart?  Either way, I love love loved, this version too!
And once again - it's for any age -- as long as you've got enough hair to semi-stretch over your head!  Even if you don't think you do, or if it's borderline --try it, because you can arrange the front of the hair & be sneaky to hide things quite easily! :-)

Braided Headband for Any Age

This idea actually comes from one of my readers Raych B. so I've got her to thank for getting the wheels turning in my head for this style!  As the title says - this is for any age -- I'd say especially tween clear to adult.  I guess, obviously though, you've got to have enough hair to braid & have it reach across your head!

Make a part from ear to ear & then one on top of the head.  Standard for us - it is off center on the right.
On the right side of the head section off hair by the ear & make a basic braid.
Braid it as far down to the tip as you can & secure it with a rubber band.
Then bring the braid up and over the top of the head towards the left side of the head.
On the left side of the head bring the end of the braid over & figure out where you want to position it - or "hide" the tail of the braid.
We took 2 baby bobby pins and made an X to secure it to her other hair.  You probably could also use a tiny claw clip or use another rubber band and secure it to some of the other hair that hangs down below.  *If you are worried about the braided headband moving around, you probably could slip a little bobby pin underneath the braid somewhere on top of the head.  But if you pull it tight enough across the head you should be ok.*
Back on the right side take the hair in front of the braid and twist it inward toward the head.  You want to cover the base of the braid - where it starts....
 Like this:
Twist the hair down a ways and then temporarily secure it on the back of the head with a claw clip while you work with the other side.
Repeat on the left side.  Twist the hair inward to cover up the left side of the braided headband and those bobby pins.
Join the 2 twists in back with a rubber band.  I off set things just a bit to the left side of her head.  Add your choice of flower or bow.  This cute little pink flower comes from Gimme Clips & is part of their Spring collection.  Oh, I also turned the ends of her hair under with a flat iron and gave the little ponytail a slight curl as well.

A look from above at the darling braided headband:
I've got to say this is one of my more recent favorites that I've done on Goose.  I loved it.  It was so simply - yet so pretty.  It just "fit" her personality.  It stayed in nicely and she had the look of a headband without the "shiftiness" of a real one!  You'll have to let me know if you try this one.  Better yet - feel free to post the pictures on our Facebook page HERE.  And if you haven't "liked" us yet, we'd sure be honored if you did! :-)
Hope everyone has a fun &
pinch free St. Patrick's Day!

Chunky Chains & a Messy Bun

Really quick, don't forget-- today is the last day to enter to win the fun Gimme Glam Kit that has that awesome i-rock tool in it.  Seriously, you can bling just about anything with this thing.  Wow - how's that for rhyming?!  It's not just for hair stuff, so if you are a scrapbooker or crafty type person ... or even if you tend to not be so brave with stuff like that, it's a fun & easy "tool" to use - so click HERE to go enter before it's too late!
I just love doing "chains" in the girls hair (go HERE if you don't know what I'm talking about!), but with Bee's hair, I've found she still has some whispy hair, especially up front so they don't work as well in her hair yet.  So needless to say I was kind of excited when I did this by accident a few weeks ago.  I was doing this hairdo recently and I accidentally did a step twice and it changed the whole thing ... so if you remember that hairdo, or tried it, these first few steps are the same.... So on with the hairdo ...

Part the hair from ear to ear over the top of the crown of the head.  Then I made an off center part so I had a small pony on each side up front.  Make a pony but don't put the rubber band too close to the head.
Make a pull through.  If you don't have a topsy tail - you can see my video HERE how to do it without one.
Once you've done a pull through up front on the main pony tail, take another rubber band and wrap it around the ponytail a few inches down.  It helps if the hair is damp for this to prevent fly aways.
Divide the hair in half between the 2 rubber bands.
Flip the hair through that hole.
It's going to look like the fake fishbone from the previous mentioned post.
Here's where it gets fun .... pass the tail of the ponytail back through the "hole" 1 more time.  So basically you are flipping the hair through the hole 2x.  By doing that - you get a bit of a circle or or at least it stays open and isn't closed in the middle like the fake-fishbone looked.
Once you've got the first one finished, add another rubber band to the ponytail and repeat the process.
Be sure to put the rubber bands close enough together or the chains won't look as circular.
I did 3 of these on each side, so it looked like a "chunky chain" to me.
Once you've got the chunky chains on both sides, take the remaining hair in back & put it into a ponytail.  *You also could simply leave the hair down in back and pull each side of chains to into the back & secure them together in the middle & be done with the hairstyle!
Then take your chains and with another little rubber band secure the chains to the base of your ponytail.
Then make your bun of choice.  We did a a messy bun - you can  go HERE for our messy bun video.  Although this just looks like a regular messy bun - out regular one even, it's a new one that we came up with, so I'm excited to share it with you in the near future!
I'm not sure what Bee's deal was the day I did this.  She didn't want to look at the camera or give me any kind of happy look, although she was completely cooperative with everything else.  I think she's having a hard time adjusting to being 4 or something! :-)
We added these some darling clips from Gimme Clips on top of the messy bun & it just made it look so cute.  They fit together perfectly and it almost looked like it was one pretty flower across the top of her bun.  These chains obviously stay in a lot better than the other ones would because they are held in with the rubber bands.  They looked awesome & lots of people commented on her hair when were out.  Bee just liked the flowers!
That's it.  Not too hard, right?  I'd love to know if you try this one & how it turns out.  Have a great weekend everyone.
