Uneven Rope/Twist Braids & Messy Bun

I figured since I'd done uneven 3 strand braids, why not try it with rope braids?  And once again, I think I came out with something that looks pretty cool in the end!

The concept is not rocket science - if you can do a regular rope/twist braid you can do this altered version of it.  It's just using a small and a large section of hair. If you don't know how to do a basic rope braid, you can view our video HERE.  But here is the video with our new way of doing them:

So hopefully you get the concept - here's the style we did on Bug that I show pictures of in the video.  It also isn't anything too tricky.

Make a side part on the left side of the head.  Then part the hair from ear to ear.
On the right side of the head divide the hair in front of the ear into 2 sections.
Make an uneven rope/twist braid in the section in front of the ear.
When you have twisted all the way down to the end, temporarily secure it with a clip or rubber band.
With the second section of hair you'd parted out that is behind the ear, make a 2nd uneven rope/twist braid.  Be sure to make it a bit higher than the one in front so they will not be right on top of each other when you pull them back later in the style.
Twist it all the way down & secure it temporarily at the end too.
On the left side of the head make a 3rd twist and secure it too.  Take the remaining hair hanging down in back & make a pony tail.
Add your 3 rope braids and secure with a rubber band.  You could be done at this point if you want.
We made a messy bun.  You can see our messy bun version HERE.
View from the top:

We added this fun little zipper flower clip from Gimme Clips & it added the perfect finishing touch!
Not only did she loose 12 inches off her hair in the last couple months, but she lost her 2 front teeth recently too!  It's changed her whole look all together!
Let us know what you think of this new "twist" on the rope braid!  If you end out doing this, we'd love it if you'd post pictures on our Facebook page!

Tip for Tuesday - Zip It Tool

No ... I'm not telling you to zip it .... it is in fact a new little tool I've discovered!!

But first, if you have been on Facebook today, you know I have yet to hear from our Curlformers winner ... so if you haven't checked yet ... go HERE to see if it is you.  I have no way to contact the winner, as the blogger ID is blocked.  So if I don't hear back from her by tonight, unfortunately I will pick a new winner in the morning because I want the winner to be able to receive their Curlformers in time for Easter.

I haven't done one of these "Tuesday Tips" for a while, but I just had to share this one because I thought it was pretty awesome.
Not too long back I was over on one of the non-hair related sites I stalk from time-to-time- Just a Girl, and she shared some things that she can't live without.  One of them is this thing called the Zip-It Tool.  It intrigued me.  Any of you ever heard of this thing before?  Basically it is a fabulous way of unclogging your drains from all the hair and junk that might cause it to drain slow or be clogged without using chemicals.

I don't know about you, but I'm sure most of us have had a slow draining sink or tub at one time or another, and especially with 3 girls there is plenty of hair that goes down the drain in their bathroom.  So we do get a slow draining tub at times.  So I went out and bought this cool thing.  I got mine at Target.  It cost me $3.99 I believe.  It comes as a 2 pack and this is what it looks like:  You hook your finger through the little hole and then shove the long jagged part down your drain and it pulls all the junk out.  Rather icky, yes -- effective?  TOTALLY!  And without all the nasty chemicals.  Even better.
It's a lot longer than this - but I couldn't get the whole thing to fit well in the pictures.  But this gives you an idea of how poky it is.

I'll spare you a video or step-by-step pix on this -- you can go to their website HERE -- Zip-It Clean and see for yourself.  Just a warning though -- the videos are not for the faint of heart or those with a weak stomach!  But if you are looking for a fairly inexpensive way to unclog your drains and do it without chemicals and not have to wait for those chemicals to work as they eat away down the drain - this tool was awesome.  My drain wasn't too bad but it still pulled stuff out and I can totally tell a difference.  So if you've got a really clogged one, this would do wonders, I'm sure.

I'd love to hear if you've ever used this, or any feedback on the Zip It Clean Tool.  It worked for us & I plan on buying them again when the need arises.

Curlformers Winner

Sorry for the delay in getting this posted.  Things have been crazy today & I ended out having an unplanned trip to the doctor late this afternoon which threw everything off.

I just wanted to give a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who entered ...  and to all my new followers on Facebook, and here on my blog ... Welcome!   And to all my followers that have been with me since ... well forever ... thanks for your continued support!  You truly are the BEST!!  It was fun reading through each of your entries hearing what you have done or will be doing for Spring Break.  From traveling, home repairs, to stay-cations, it sounds like most of you have enjoyed your time off (for the most part!)  You've also given me some ideas of things to do with the girls for our upcoming break.  And I must say ... I can't wait!

So on with the show.  There were so many of you that entered- and our lucky # was 155 (it picked surprisingly low this time!)
Which means our winner is:
Congratulations Stacie & thanks for your sweet comment!  Please contact me, if possible, by tonight, so I can get them mailed off to you tomorrow.  Be sure to tell me which set of Curlformers you want ... Option #1 or #2.  If I don't hear back from you by Tuesday night, I will pick a new winner.  I want to get these mailed off to be received before Easter if possible!

For more info on Curlformers - you can visit their site HERE or check out all the different styles we've done with them  HERE.

Thanks again to each and everyone of you that took the time to enter.  We've got several more fun giveaways coming up ... so stay tuned.

Feather Braided Bun #2

After I'd posted our feather braided bun the other day, I liked it so much I did it again, but changed it up just slightly, so there aren't as many curls hanging down.  I didn't take any step-by-steps on this, but just wanted to share so you could see my slight alteration.
It's hard to see in the pictures, but I actually took 3 of the long sections that hung down below and braided them together making a tiny braid.  I let the ends be free so the curls still could be pinned around.  That's what the arrow is pointing at.  If you click to enlarge the pic you can sort of see it better!  The whole braid thing isn't necessary, it was just something I did to get get those long sections out of the way.  They could be pinned up just as easily.

I secured the bun with bobby pins, but used hair pins to secure all the curls around the bun.  There was no exactness to how I looped the curls, I just placed them where I thought it looked good or filled in a space that needed a curl.  Then to finish it off, we added our fancy "bling" bobby pins to make it extra fancy.  Because, of course, every girl needs bling when wearing her fleece Tinkerbell jogging suit! LOL  (Just in case -- If you need to see the video on how to make a feather braid go HERE.)
So now you've got 2 different options when doing this  pretty feather braided bun -- it can be a "down-do" or more of an "up-do" depending on which way you pin the curls!  This would be a GREAT one for Easter next week.
And if you haven't yet, don't forget to enter our Curlformers giveaway.  Scroll down for details.

Curlformers Giveaway & News-- IS NOW CLOSED

It's no secret around here how much we love Curlformers around here.  At least I hope it's not!  I know so many of you have bought them because of all the reviews and styles we've done using them here on our site.  And well, if you haven't bought any yet, or are in need of more of them, today is your lucky day!

But first, I just wanted to share with you the latest exciting news on our end - Curlformer related.  My contact at Curlformers let me know that last month in a magazine called Dance Review that is published in the UK, there was an article published about Curlformers.  They are becoming very popular among dance and cheer leading groups world wide.  And the exciting news is they used Bug's picture of her fabulous curls as well for the article.  Obviously we don't live in the UK, so they sent me the magazine. It was neat for Bug to see her hair in it along with all this other dance related stuff!  Way to go Bug!
